Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The department provides comprehensive perioperative anesthesia services at the University of New Mexico Hospital, the UNM Children’s Hospital and the University Outpatient Surgery Center. UNM Hospital is a Level I trauma center and the UNM Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) - designated cancer center in the state of New Mexico.
The department features more than 50 faculty physicians, nearly 50 allied health providers and 30 residents and 5 fellows who provide care in a number of different environments and subspecialties including acute pain & regional anesthesia, cardiac, chronic pain, critical care, neuro, obstetrics, pediatrics. Our faculty are integrated into the educational activities of the School of Medicine including through classroom instruction, clinical rotations and the simulation lab. In our 6,000 square foot, nationally funded research lab, cutting edge advancements are being made to solve challenges in acute and chronic pain.
