We invite community participants to our lab for FREE physical therapy consultation, including treatment and education.
Individual consultations will be conducted by a group of 1-3 UNM DPT students, overseen by a licensed UNM PT faculty member. Participants will receive home exercise program recommendations and education. Possibility of 2-4 follow up visits, depending on the need & availability.
Our Goal:
To provide high-quality PT consultation and services for the underserved communities of New Mexico, aimed at improving function and quality of life, and to empower New Mexicans to take charge of their health. To offer hands-on learning opportunities for DPT students.
Eligibility: Participants should have good rehab potential and a high level of compliance.
People withOrthopedic Conditionswho would benefit from a PT consultation (referral required).
We are accepting people who meet oneof the following criteria:
Uninsured
Have a Medicaid insurance (Molina, Centennial Care, Salud)
UNM students
Have been to PT and have reached the maximum allowed visits from insurance
Are currently in PT with a limited number of allowed visits from insurance
Please note that inability to afford your copays/deductibles is notone of our eligibility criteria. If you do not meet our eligibility criteria, we may be able to offer you a one-time consultation, based on our availability.
People with Pediatric Conditions who would benefit from PT consultation.
We are accepting participants who meet oneof the following criteria:
Have run out of visits and are still in need of therapy
Unable to access appropriate pediatric physical therapy services
In need of initial PT services, but are on a long wait list elsewhere
Can be seen without a referral onlyifthe child has an official diagnosis made by a physician. Please know that your child's services will be intermittent, such as once every 4-6 weeks, so our focus will be teaching youhow to help your child.

Thursday evenings only, Spring and Fall Semesters only. Closed for Summer Semester.
Appointment times are 45 - 90 minutes, depending on diagnosis and schedule:
At UNM Domenici Northwest: Ortho Appointments run from 3:30 pm-7:30 pm
At Sandia Sunrise: Pediatric appointments are from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm.
Because we are unable to offer routine physical therapy, please understand the following policies related to our lab:
We are unable to see individuals who are currently involved in lawsuits related to their condition
We are unable to assist people in pursuing disability benefits
If we feel that your condition requires routine physical therapy and you have some insurance benefits, we will recommend that you pursue routine PT at another venue
