Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences – Concentration Radiologic Technology Program

The University of New Mexico Radiologic Sciences Department now offers a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree with a concentration in Radiologic Technology. This program addresses the growing demand for radiologic technologists—locally and nationally—by providing a direct pathway to a four-year degree in radiography.

Program development:  The program has accepted a pilot cohort of students who will graduate in July 2027.  The application cycle for the Fall 2027 program entry will close after the first Friday in April.  Please bookmark this page for updates on program development, accreditation, and entrance requirements.  

Clinical Excellence: Supported by UNMH Radiology leadership and diverse clinical partners, the program offers robust clinical training, including Level 1 trauma experience, pediatrics, and advanced imaging modalities.  

Student Learning Outcomes:  

Graduates of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Radiologic Science with a concentration in Radiologic Technology will be able to:

1.1 Perform radiologic procedures accurately following established protocols.

1.2 Apply appropriate radiation protection principles for patients, themselves, and others.

1.3 Demonstrate applied knowledge by passing the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam

2.1 Communicate effectively with patients to provide clear instructions and compassionate care.

2.2 Demonstrate professional communication with healthcare team members using appropriate medical terminology and documentation standards.

3.1 Assess individual patient needs and adapt standard procedures to accommodate these needs.

3.2 Analyze images for diagnostic quality and determine the need for repeat exposures.

4.1 Apply the ARRT Code of Ethics and the Patient’s Bill of Rights to clinical decision-making.

5.1 Students will engage in interprofessional learning activities

6.1 Participate in professional development activities such as research projects, advocacy initiatives, or community health events.

Career Impact:

Graduates will be prepared for certification through the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and for advanced roles in radiologic sciences.
