The Department of Surgery in The University of New Mexico School of Medicine offers a full range of academic medical programs and is organized into nine clinical divisions:
The Division of Acute Care Surgery delivers the highest level of trauma care to both children and adults, as they are the only verified Level 1 Trauma Center within the entire state of New Mexico. The faculty is dedicated to serving the needs of the community by receiving the best continuing education in order to continuously provide exceptional care.
The Division of General & Gastrointestinal Surgery delivers advanced patient care while pursuing innovative research in the field and training the next era of surgeons through our residency program.
The Office of Surgical Research supports clinical, translational, and basic science studies by providing research infrastructure.
The Division of Pediatric Surgery cares for children—from newborn through adolescence—with compassionate, family-centered care.
The Division of Surgical Oncology provides comprehensive cancer care for breast, gastric, pancreas and liver, and melanoma and a surgical oncology fellowship to advance training in the field.
Adult and pediatric cardiac and thoracic care in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery treats all heart and lung diseases, including complex procedures that can’t be performed elsewhere in the region.
The Division of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery provides state of the art surgical care for children and adults with diseases of the ear, nose and throat. Our faculty work side-by-side with resident physicians, in a patient centered learning environment, training surgeons to become leaders in otolaryngology.
The Division of Plastic & Reconstructive surgery provides expert care and training for burns, reconstruction, and cosmetic procedures. We also offer a residency in Plastics, Burns & Hand.
The Division of Urology in the Department of Surgery at The University of New Mexico School of Medicine offers minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and other interventions for male and female urological conditions.
The Division of Vascular Surgery division is committed to improving the lives of patients with arterial and venous conditions, at the same time training the next generation of vascular surgeons.
