eLPPC modules are web-based interactive lessons with embedded self-assessment to foster learning. The modules are provided on the CPL Learning Cloud and CME credits are available. Please click on the titles below for full descriptions and registration information.
The Infant Safe Sleep module provides education and training for healthcare providers to better address Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (SUID). An average of 22 otherwise healthy infants die each year in New Mexico, with their deaths attributed to SUID. The long-term health goal of this project is to reduce that number.
In order to accomplish this, we are providing training to increase the translation of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines regarding infant safe sleep into practice in the hospital setting and in the education of new parents. The training focuses on personnel working in mother-baby units or newborn nurseries and is designed to increase knowledge, self-efficacy, and intent to put the guidelines into practice. Infant Safe Sleep is a collaboration between the Office for Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) and the Prevention Research Center.
If desired, you can claim CME credit for internet searching and learning. This activity is available for up to 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.
Target Audience
Hospital physicians and clinical staff working in mother-baby units or newborn nurseries.
Learning Objectives
1. Learners will demonstrate competence in the most current infant safe sleep practices recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
2. Learners will demonstrate competence in the ability to teach infant safe sleep practices to culturally diverse parents and families of infants.
The literature demonstrates that low health literacy is associated with increased patient morbidity and mortality. Both The Joint Commission and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services identify effective communication as a cornerstone of patient safety. The teach-back method of patient education has been shown to assist patients in adhering to medication regimens and to adopt new lifestyle behaviors, ultimately improving patient outcomes. Teach-Back for Best Health Outcomes is a collaboration between the Office for Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) and the Health Literacy Office.
This course has both an online component and a live component where you will demonstrate your teach back skills to an observer. You must complete both to receive 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Target Audience
Healthcare providers
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, the learner will be able to demonstrate the effective use of the five skills for teach-back.
When is a stroke not a stroke, or a tumor not a tumor? This is a distinct possibility in New Mexico, where Cerebral Cavernous Malformations (CCM1), an otherwise rare genetic disorder exhibiting symptoms similar to many ailments including strokes and brain tumors, exists among a considerable amount of the New Mexican population. This course’s purpose is to teach physicians how to properly identify and manage the symptoms of the CCM1, so they can better assist their patients, and protect them from the dangers of misdiagnosis.
Target Audience
Healthcare providers and general practitioners working within New Mexico.
Learning Objectives
Many women with overactive bladder and urgency incontinence do not receive treatment for their disease and we would like to improve that. Of women who are treated, many receive medications that are associated with adverse side effects like dementia. Participants also learn about third-line options for management of this condition, to counsel their patients.
Target Audience
