UNM Health Sciences Center
The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is the only academic medical center for the state. Its hospital system serves as the Level 1 Trauma Center and tertiary referral center for the greater Southwest. The HSC serves a diverse ethnic and socioeconomic population including members of 19 Native American pueblos, 2 Apache nations and the Navajo Nation. The Hispanic population in New Mexico is among the highest in the country.
New Mexico has a long rich history and a strong rural base. It is also home to Sandia National Labs and Los Alamos National Labs. Our Department’s Center for Psychiatric Research collaborates on projects with the MIND Research Network which, in turn, partners with Massachusetts General Hospital, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Colorado-Boulder to study mental illness and brain disease using cutting-edge technology.
New Mexico is known as “the Land of Enchantment” for a reason. It’s an ideal place to learn, live and raise a family. A high desert state at the tail end of the Rocky Mountains, New Mexico has more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Our cost of living is 5 percent lower than the national average.
