During this two-year phase, psychiatry clinicians precept medical students to learn the Mental Status Exam, general clinical skill of sharing information, motivational interviewing, sexuality interviewing, ethics and diversity and more. They also cover behavioral sciences during the neuroscience block with topics such as psychodynamic theory and psychopathology.

Phase II

Scheduled during the clinical year, this four-week experience is the psychiatry clerkship. Medical students learn in a variety of contexts in including clinical experiences and teaching sessions on the clerkship, psychiatry emergency room call shifts, and in other clinical settings. Phase III

During the elective/required clinical rotations and residency application year, psychiatry offers demanding sub-internship opportunities as well as fun and interesting outpatient elective experiences including the Addiction and Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) .
