The mission of the UNM Pediatric Residency Program is to provide a high-quality training program, with robust clinical and educational experiences that will help create excellent pediatricians for pediatric patients, both here and now in New Mexico, but also for patients throughout their careers. Our residents will work in a supportive learning environment that places focus on:
Resident education, by building medical knowledge and clinical skills, practicing evidence-based medicine, and cultivating resident as educators.
Service to our unique patient populations here in New Mexico, which include a variety of underserved populations (e.g., under-resourced, indigenous, Latina/o/x, immigrant, refugee, LGTBQIA+), thereby developing a skill set to meet the needs of diverse populations everywhere.
Advocacy at all levels, from individual patient visits to legislative advocacy; residents are encouraged to exercise their voices to champion causes that are important to them.
Upon completion of their training program, our residents will be prepared for whatever next steps they choose, including fellowship training, academic medicine, and community practice.
