Why conduct clinical trials? We conduct clinical trials to improve the health of children in New Mexico and across the country and world. Medical treatments are often different for children and can vary with their stage of development. That is why it is so important to conduct research that focuses on them. Pediatric clinical trials bring vital innovations in treatment options and contribute to ensuring that clinical care will be better in the future.
What should I know about participating in a clinical trial? It is important to understand the purpose, benefits, risks, and procedures and activities involved in order to decide whether to participate in a clinical study. The Children and Clinical Studies website is a resource for learning more about what it’s like for a family to participate in research, questions to ask, safety protections, your rights, and children’s experiences participating in research.
Investigators from the UNM Department of Pediatrics currently conduct clinical trials in several different therapeutic areas:
Clinicaltrials.gov is a database managed by the National Institutes of Health of privately and publicly funded clinical studies conducted around the world, including clinical trials being conducted at UNM.
