The Department of Pediatrics provides a strong environment for interdisciplinary clinical and translational research in pediatrics, including basic and preclinical research. Faculty have lab space within the health sciences center and access to advanced research technologies and equipment, including genomics sequencing, flow cytometry and high throughput screening, fluorescence microscopy and other resources.
Dr. Darrell Dinwiddie’s research uses genomic medicine to diagnose, discover, and investigate rare monogenic genetic disorders and to apply genomics to understand immune-mediated disorders. Dr. Dinwiddie’s lab specializes in molecular biology and genomic experiments and is approved for Biosafety Level 2 work.
Dr. Jessie Maxwell's laboratory is focused on investigating the impact of prenatal exposures on the developing brain. Specifically, her lab investigates the effects of exposure to alcohol and/or opioids in utero on the structure and microstructure of the brain, as well as the impact this has on long-term neurodevelopmental function.
