The Committee on Admissions requires applicants to submit a minimum of three letters of recommendation, with a maximum of four, from individuals who know them well. These individuals should be chosen carefully by the applicant to honestly evaluate their abilities and their motivation for the practice of medicine.
It is suggested that applicants obtain letters from the following:
*Applicants who have been away from degree-granting academic programs for several years may elect to submit letters from individuals other than professors.
The UNM School of Medicine participates in the AMCAS Letters of Evaluation/Recommendation Program. This service enables medical schools to receive all letters electronically via AMCAS, and enables your authors to send all letters to AMCAS. There are several mediums in which a letter writer can send your letter to AMCAS, including Virtual Evals, Interfolio, and via the mail. In addition, letter writers who currently mail letters can opt to upload letters directly to AMCAS through the AMCAS Letter Writer Application. Letters of recommendation will only be accepted through the AMCAS Letter Service. Letters sent directly to the Office of Admissions will not be accepted.
Deadline: All letters of recommendation must be received by Office of Admissions prior to the interview date and/or NO later than December 1st (whichever comes first). Any letters of recommendation received after the date of the interview or after December 1st, will not be included in the application.
