Immerse yourself in a comprehensive medical program. Apply for an anesthesiology residency at UNM.
Complete an internship as part of your anesthesiology residency. The UNM Anesthesiology Residency Program’s internship offers experience in all medical disciplines relevant to perioperative medicine.
The internship is an integral part of the 48-month curriculum. Core rotations are selected to give a solid background for subsequent training in clinical anesthesiology.
Pursue a subspecialty in anesthesiology. Browse rotations you can complete as a resident.
The intern year consists of 13 four-week rotations including:
Most rotations are on-site at UNM Hospital, with several opportunities to work at the VA Medical Center. Your rotations may include any of the following areas or departments.
We coordinate this popular program with other departments. The program director maintains rotation oversight on services used for the Clinical Base Year. While rotating through various services, our interns get to know the hospital and facilities and build collegial relationships with other residents.
Throughout the year, the residency program director, the assistant program director and the program coordinator maintain contact with the interns. You will meet periodically to discuss your progress, experiences and concerns. Interns are welcome at educational and social events organized by our residency program and department.
We require interns to pass USMLE Step 3 by the end of the CA1 year; however, we encourage you to take it sooner.
