Weekly didactic lectures are provided to cover a broad range of cardiovascular topics. There is a Core Curriculum Conference weekly, as well as weekly Graphics/Imaging conferences, which alternate between VA cath conference (biweekly) and echo, EP/ECG, nuclear, and CT/MRI imaging conferences. The UNM Friday conferences consist of four rotating conferences covering cardiac cath topics, electrophysiology topics, an echocardiography didactic conference and our monthly morbity and mortality conference. Fellows are expected to participate in the production of conferences, solidifying their skills as content experts and building their educational skills for further pursuit of academic positions.
We have a monthly Journal Club, focusing on new, state of the art articles pertinent to the practice of cardiology, as well as a monthly didactic ECG conference, biweekly combined cardiology/CT surgery case conference, cardiac cath lab morbidity and mortality conferences as well as cardiac cath lab quality conferences.
Research conference is held semi-annually where fellows present their own research ideas and projects for critique and suggestions as well as to show scholarly products before presentation at national conferences. Additionally, Cardiology Grand Rounds are held multiple times per year, with nationally known speakers presenting interesting topics.
