Learn More About Our Fellowship
The Division of Palliative Medicine at the University of New Mexico offers a one-year ACGME accredited adult clinical fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. We provide a unique comprehensive program involving inpatient consultations at UNM Hospital, clinical rotations at a Veterans Affairs hospital, pediatric experience with Mariposa hospice, outpatient palliative continuity clinic, palliative home visits and hospice experience.
Our mission is to educate current and future clinicians to provide expert, compassionate palliative care to patients and families dealing with serious illnesses.
We infuse our curriculum with a deep appreciation and respect of diversity among patients, families, colleagues and trainees. In 2012, we established New Mexico’s first ACGME accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship for physicians. We also have educational programs for undergraduates and graduates.
UNM students and clinicians advance the field of palliative care through research. In collaboration with local, state and national organizations, we constantly strive to improve palliative care education and patient care in New Mexico.
You will train with compassionate, knowledgeable experts across a diversity of departments. The palliative care team at the University of New Mexico consists of:
Unlike hospice, palliative care is not limited to end-of-life. From medical pain relief to spiritual support, you will care for patients at many stages of complex illnesses.
Our palliative care programs improve the quality of life for patients dealing with complex health challenges.
