Established in 1945 as the University of New Mexico’s first health profession college, the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy leads the state in pharmacy education, research and practice. As New Mexico’s only pharmacy school, we serve as a model of best pharmacy practices across the nation.
Our research enterprise in basic, clinical and translational science has achieved – and sustained – impressive growth. We rank 15th in the nation among 139 colleges of pharmacy in federal research funding. Over the past six years, research activities have increased 300 percent.
Our nationally and internationally recognized faculty consistently excel in high-impact publications and intellectual property (patent) disclosures. We engage in research across the translational spectrum, ranging from laboratory discoveries to community-based participatory research and policy development.
Pharmacy and graduate students enjoy exceptional opportunities for scientific inquiry and discovery. Working alongside some of the nation’s best scientific minds, students perform high-impact, leading-edge research.
We provide the training ground for two-thirds of New Mexico’s practicing pharmacists – leaders who advance the profession, help patients and support students. Many graduates work in underserved areas of the state, fulfilling a crucial role in communities. During an annual community outreach day, all student pharmacists fan out across New Mexico to provide health services and education.
With dedicated, outstanding clinical and basic science faculty, and a student to faculty ratio of 7:1, every student receives individual attention and support. Students engage fully with a comprehensive curriculum delivered in advanced facilities.
We are one of the only colleges in the nation where student pharmacists can work toward certification in nuclear pharmacy while earning a PharmD.
Our graduates leave school trained for practice as a pharmacist with prescriptive authority.
New Mexico’s pharmacists prescribe, dispense and administer a variety of board-approved medications.
Pharmacists in New Mexico with advanced training – pharmacist clinicians – practice as formally recognized providers in the healthcare system.
