Presentation Guidelines

Note: Platform presentation guidelines presented are a summarization of guidance/rules from various residency research conferences across the country. Programs reviewed include: Eastern States, Western States, SERC, Alcalde, Northwestern RC, and Mountain States RC.

Land of Enchantment Presentation Guidelines

Presentations must be approved by the resident’s project mentor(s) prior to submission.  It is recommended proof-read carefully for grammar, spelling, and other errors as slides cannot be changed after submission. Deadline for submission is May 1^st, 2025

Format:

• Presentations should be submitted electronically as a PowerPoint presentation (ver. 2016 or later).
• Presentations will be made in-person in your scheduled room at your assigned time
• Each slide presentation will be allocated 15 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions
• Each presentation session will have a moderator who will coordinate the transition between slide presentations, introduce the presenter and topic, as well as mediate questions from the audience at the end of the presentation.
• Residents should be present in their scheduled room 30-minutes prior to their scheduled session to complete a technical check
• Feedback will be made available to the residents after review of electronic submissions by the conference committee

Slide Requirements:

1. Title Slide – include title of project, presenter’s full name with credentials, position/title, name and location of the residency program
2. Disclosures
   1. IRB status – approved w/ date, exempt, or not required
   2. Co-Investigators – full name with credentials, title
   3. Conflicts of Interest – note any relevant financial interests of any investigator
   4. Sponsorship – note any funding received or state “None”
3. Facility/Institution – include name/location of facility where the research was conducted. Include all relevant information such as size, population served, specialized services/units, or other information as it relates to the project.
4. Background – Pertinent information that provides justification to the objectives of the project and gives the audience the necessary context in which the study was conducted.  Primary literature and facility-specific information should be appropriately summarized and referenced.
5. Objectives – Clearly state the objectives of the project
6. Methods – succinctly describes the methods used to achieve study objectives
7. Results – for each objective listed, results should be shared in a manner that clearly outlines the findings using brief summarizations, tables, figures, and graphs.
8. Discussion/Limitations – discussion of results with presenter’s interpretation, relation to background/objectives, and identification of any confounders
9. Conclusion – Clearly state conclusions to be drawn from the study or project results
10. Next Steps/Future Directions (optional) – discuss any opportunities for impact of project results at sponsoring facility regarding patient care or policy
11. Self-Assessment questions – include 3 assessment questions relevant to the key takeaways/objectives from the presented material
12. Questions – include contact information
