It is estimated that 70 – 90% of all cancers are linked to environmental risk factors. The Environmental Cancer RFG is focused on investigating the diverse carcinogenic mechanisms of environmental chemicals that contribute to the initiation, promotion, and progression of cancer and metastasis.
Lead: Matthew Campen, PhD
Our scientific understanding of the health effects of inhaled toxicants requires sophisticated methods that are often challenging for researchers in other fields. The ICT RFG has established a wide range of flexible methods for exposure in preclinical research models. These include basic gases, such as ozone and nitric oxide; resuspended particulates; and combusted biomass (ie, wildfire smoke) or other materials (e.g., burn pit or e-waste models). We also offer analytical instrumentation to assist in the characterization of the toxicant exposures and uptake.
