Graduate Studies

Pharmaceutical Sciences is an interdisciplinary field that prepares graduates for careers in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, universities and research centers, national laboratories and federal agencies such as the FDA and EPA.

Programs of Study

Students can enroll in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program (BSGP) or the Nanoscience and Microsystems (NSMS) program, depending on their background and research interests. BSGP students should enroll in PHRM 597 (Independent Study) and PHRM 699 (Dissertation) rather than BIOMED courses.

In addition to requirements for each program of study, students in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences are required to:

• Enroll in the department’s seminar course (PHRM 593) each semester.
• Complete the Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology course (PHRM 576) and at least one other PHRM didactic course, such as General Toxicology or an Advanced Organ-Based Pharmacology course.

Graduate courses taught by our faculty include:

• Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology (PHRM 576, 3 credits)
• General Toxicology (PHRM 580, 3 credits)
• Pharmaceutical Sciences and Toxicology Seminar (PHRM 593, 1 credit)
• Advanced Organ-Based Pharmacology courses (PHRM 598, 1 credit each)
• Advanced Topics courses (e.g., Pharmacogenomics - PHRM 536, 2 credits; Drug Product Development-PHRM 598, 2 credits)

We also offer a PharmD / MS dual degree.
