John Durkin, MD, FAAD, FAAP Dr. John Durkin joined the UNM Department of Dermatology in July 2018 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Durkin received his MD from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his residency at Drexel University where he served as Chief Resident. His specific areas of clinical interest include digital imaging and diagnostic techniques, such as dermoscopy, optical coherence tomography and reflective confocal microscopy. He is also interested in pigmented lesions (moles) and melanoma, hereditary cancer syndromes, and noninvasive treatment of skin cancer. In addition, Dr. Durkin also provides aesthetic services such as Botox, peels, fillers, laser treatments and serves as the Medical Director for the department. |

Therese Holguin, MD, FAAD Therese Holguin, M.D. joined UNM Department of Dermatology in 2016 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Holguin graduated from UNM School of Medicine in 1984, completed two years of Internal Medicine internship and residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, and a UNM Dermatology residency in 1989. Prior to joining UNM, she was a partner in private practice at Northern Arizona Dermatology Center in Flagstaff, Arizona for over 26 years. Dr. Holguin’s specialties include general and complex dermatology and surgical dermatology including complex excisions and the treatment of skin cancer. |

Brandi Kenner-Bell, MD, FAAD, FAAP Brandi Kenner-Bell, MD completed her medical training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where she continued on to complete her pediatrics residency at Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Kenner-Bell then moved on to a second residency in dermatology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL as well as her pediatric dermatology fellowship at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Her interests include acne and hidradenitits suppurativa, rheumatologic diseases of the skin, surgery and laser therapy of the skin and specialized care of skin of color. |

Nikifor Konstantinov, MD, FAAD Nikifor (Nikki) Konstantinov,MD graduated from the combined BA/ MD program at the University of New Mexico in 2016. He continued his training in internal medicine-dermatology at the University of Minnesota for another combined program, where his academic interests are in complex medical dermatology, with a particular interest in connective tissue diseases, inpatient dermatology, global health and innovative diagnostics within the field. |

Andrew Matsumoto, MD, FAAD Andrew Matsumoto, MD joined the UNM Department of Dermatology in August of 2022 as an Assistant Professor and Director of Mohs Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology. He received his medical degree at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY and completed his residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX where he also completed his Mohs Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship. Dr. Matsumoto has extensive training in utilizing the Mohs Micrographic Surgery technique for treatment of various skin cancers as well as advanced surgical reconstruction. His specific interests are the application of Mohs surgery for high risk squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and in rare cutaneous tumors such as melanoma in situ of the nail unit. |

Romeo Morales, MD, FAAD Romeo Morales, MD completed his medical training at Boston University School of Medicine in 1997 and went on to complete his residency at Universty of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. Dr. Morales was a Clinical Instructor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY from 2013-2018. He came to Albququerque in 2018 to join the UNM Department of Dermatology as an Associate Professor and to provide clinical services at Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center. |

Charles Phillips, MD, FAAD Charles (Chuck) Phillips, MD, FAAD trained in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; then went on to train in dermatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham before joining the faculty at Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC, where he was Chief of Dermatology for a decade. He now serves as a Clinical Professor in the UNM Department of Dermatology and is part of the faculty at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center. |

Aimee Smidt, MD, FAAD, FAAP Aimee Smidt, MD, is originally from New England, and obtained her M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY. She completed Pediatrics residency at Baylor College of Medicine Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, followed by Dermatology residency at Northwestern University in Chicago and a fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology at Northwestern University-Children’s Memorial Hospital. A faculty member at UNM since 2009, she is the only board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric dermatologist in the state. She assumed the role of Chair of the Department of Dermatology in 2017 and is most proud of the excellent team and tremendous Dermatology residency training program she has helped to build. She has also served as UNMH Chief of Staff (2014-6) and on the UNMH Board of Trustees (2016-8) and has been recognized as a “Top Doc” in Albuquerque. Her main clinical interests include: vascular birthmarks/anomalies, laser procedures, skin disease in adolescents and improving access to dermatologic care in New Mexico. She has a long track record of educational activities at all levels within the HSC and regionally/nationally, including teaching medical students, residents (Dermatology and Pediatrics) and she has served as a mentor and preceptor for many trainees and other providers. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Society for Pediatric Dermatology and the International Society for Vascular Anomalies, among other organizations. |
