Why I Chose UNM: I was able to rotate at UNM during medical school and I loved the people I worked with at the hospital as well as the awesome patients that I got to take care of. I also like all the outdoor activities New Mexico has to offer.
About Me/Hobbies: I enjoy golfing, hunting, playing music, and spending time with my family.
Future Plans: I am not sure of future plans yet, but I enjoy working with the pediatric population and am considering a pediatric fellowship.

Medical School: California Northstate University College of Medicine
Why I Chose UNM: I initially heard about the excellent learning environment and supportive culture at UNM from a former medical school colleague. Being the only academic medical center in New Mexico and a Level 1 Trauma Center, we get exceptional cases and training, especially with the unique and diverse patient population of NM. Additionally, the location is amazing. There are a ton of outdoor activities (hiking, skiing, biking…), great food, good cost of living, and the culture in NM is incredibly rich.
About Me/Hobbies: I enjoy running, exploring national parks, cooking, and I just took up mountain biking. But my #1 passion is being a dad and chasing my son around.
Future Plans: I'm keeping an open mind, but am interested in acute and chronic pain.

Medical School: Midwestern University
Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM because I knew the clinical training would prepare me to be an excellent anesthesiologist. The faculty at UNM are very supportive, which was another important factor for me. I also chose it because of its close proximity to various outdoor activities and being located in the southwest region.
About Me/Hobbies: I enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, mountain biking, Jiu jitsu, lifting.
Future Plans: I'm possibly considering a fellowship in either hearts or peds, but unsure at this time. I'm leaning towards private practice.

Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM because of the people and educational experience. We have a diverse patient base that’s great to learn from and our faculty is always willing to teach and engage with students and residents. It also helps that there is skiing and hiking near by!
About Me/Hobbies: I spend my time outside of work with friends and family. I love to travel when I have the time and do active things like skiing, hiking, and playing volleyball. I also love to bake and decorate cakes.
Future Plans: I have a lot of interests inside anesthesia and have not decided on fellowship plans just yet.
Hometown: Anchorage, AK
Medical School: Pacific Northwest University
Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM because it encompasses all the things I was looking for in a residency -a superb training environment with diverse patients and amazing faculty and coresidents—all in a setting with incredible access to trails and mountains.
About Me/Hobbies: I love all things outdoors and I am particularly passionate about running and skiing! I have increasingly gotten more into marathon and ultra-marathon running and have competed in a handful of each. I spend most winters on as many types of skis as possible - cross country, telemark, resort, and backcountry!
Future Plans: As of right now, I’m hoping to go on to either a critical care or cardiothoracic fellowship and end up practicing back in Alaska at some point.
Hometown: Rincon, Puerto Rico
Medical School: American University of Antigua College of Medicine
Why I Chose UNM: I was looking for a program in which camaraderie prevailed, with good people, and with patient diversity and exposure to different cases. One thing that stood out from UNM was that within the teaching faculty and the residents, the female to male ratio was higher when compared to other programs, which means they don’t want this program to be male dominated. Lastly, I had an awesome interview experience which made me rank UNM very high on my rank list.
About Me/Hobbies: Travel, practice outdoor sports - hiking, scuba diving, paintball, boats, wakeboard, basketball, ping pong.
Future Plans: I plan to pursue fellowship, but I haven't decided yet.
Hometown: Millbrae, CA
Medical School: Rocky Vista University
Why I Chose UNM: I really thought that the vibe here was impressive and exactly my kind of speed. I knew that residency was going to be 4 years, and that could be long or short depending on the people that I was surrounded by. I also believe that the culture of comradery and support would put me in the best possible position to succeed. Finally, I am all about finding a good balance between my work and play, and the easy access to the outdoors was just another selling point.
About Me/Hobbies: I love surfing but when I am away from the ocean I fish, hike, play basketball, cook, bake, and eat!
Future Plans: Be a great anesthesiologist! I am also interested in possibly pursuing a fellowship after training, but we shall see!

Why I Chose UNM: That is an easy one for me. My experiences during my 4th year rotations in the Anesthesia department were amazing. Everyone from the Department Chair to the Attendings, Residents, Anesthesia Assistants and Techs were so supportive of my learning. They spent time teaching and provided me with amazing opportunities to do procedures and learn anything I had questions about. I love helping others learn and grow so I knew immediately UNM was the program I wanted to be a part for residency.
About Me/Hobbies: Mountaineering, welding, dirt biking, mountain biking, health policy, and anesthesiology.
Future Plans: My wife and I hope to practice in Alaska for a year after residency and explore the state's national parks. Long term, I want to get involved in health policy and eventually volunteer with Samaritan's Purse World Medical Missions.
