Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM because I had such a great experience as a medical student here. The residents I worked with were happy and helpful and the faculty were so supportive. During my 4th year rotations, I knew I wanted to stay and be part of this excellent training program.
About Me/Hobbies: My current obsession is hydroponics - I love growing my own herbs and lettuce bug-free! Other things I love to do in all of my spare time - soccer, snowboarding, painting my nails, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting/sewing.
Future Plans: 1. Succeed in residency 2. Pursue fellowship, to be determined

Why I Chose UNM: During my time in Las Cruces and Southeastern New Mexico, I had the chance to work with attendings who spoke highly of the program’s strong clinical training. In engaging with the residents, it was evident that the program was thoughtfully balanced with a commitment to personal growth and well-being.
About Me/Hobbies: I enjoy swimming, and exploring new places. More recently, I've started playing pickleball.
Future Plans: I’ve been fortunate to learn from excellent mentors throughout my training, and I hope to one day give back by teaching and supporting the next generation of learners. I am also interested in pediatric anesthesiology.

Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM because it is a well rounded program with great trauma exposure. Additionally, the hospital serves a unique patient population with a wide variety of pathologies. Being a family man, I also love the low cost of living in ABQ and the wide variety of activities and entertainment for my wife and kids.
About Me/Hobbies: I love being with my family--taking my kids to the park, exercising with my wife, and enjoying quiet time at home together. When I need some alone time, I enjoy running and biking.
Future Plans: I am open to the idea of fellowship, and I am excited to get more exposure to the subspecialties of anesthesia. After completing residency (and maybe a fellowship), my first attending job will be with the U.S. Air Force.

Why I Chose UNM: Going to UNM for medical school I had the opportunity to get to know the department well and I was impressed with the unique opportunities that it presented. I really appreciated the supportive environment and the close mentorship the faculty provides, exposure to high levels of trauma, and broad exposure to all anesthesia subspecialties. I chose the University of New Mexico to get very strong clinical training and for its faculty who take pride in their residents' wellbeing and clinical education.

Future Plans: I am interested in pursuing a fellowship either in chronic pain or regional anesthesia

Why I Chose UNM: UNM is the kind of place where you feel challenged in the best way and reminded daily why you chose this specialty. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to care for patients and work with staff who come from different cultural backgrounds, allowing me to grow both as a physician and as a person. The community is incredibly welcoming, with attendings and senior residents who are not only skilled and knowledgeable, but genuinely inclusive, approachable, and eager to teach.
About Me/Hobbies: I spend way too much time playing and watching soccer. I am a full-time husky dad but occasionally find time to ride my bike, ski, and FaceTime with my family.
Future Plans: I plan to pursue an acute/chronic pain or cardiac fellowship.

During my medical school rotations, I appreciated how supportive everyone was — from the staff and faculty to the residents. Most importantly, I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back and serve my home state and community.
About Me/Hobbies: I enjoy being outside whether it’s walking, hiking, or biking — preferably with family and friends.
Future Plans: I am currently undecided about pursuing a fellowship, but I ultimately plan to continue practicing in the Southwest and New Mexico.

Why I Chose UNM: I wanted to be in a program that had diversity at its core, and UNM has accomplished that in various aspects (from the patient population to the faculty). The welcoming and supportive environment created by the residents and faculty during interview day assured me that I would be able to achieve my academic goals AND create long-lasting relationships. The multitude of outdoor activities that Albuquerque had to offer was just the cherry on top!
About Me/Hobbies: I'm basically a nerd who loves to be outside. Some of my hobbies include anime, scuba diving, hiking, gaming, photography, working out, and chilling with Killua (my Shiba). I love to meet new people & understand their experiences so that makes traveling and trying new cuisines a given. Hopefully I can add some winter sports soon.
Future Plans: In the future, I hope to become proficient in Spanish and pursue a pain medicine and critical care fellowship.
