Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM for what boils down to people. Not only is there a unique blend of diverse clinical populations, commitment to the underserved, and strong mentorship provided by the faculty, but everyone I have met along the path here has been nothing but friendly and inviting. The strong support in addition to the geographical location with so much to explore on the nature side of things was really a selling point for me.
About Me/Hobbies: I have always been a big hobbies person. Maybe its the kid in me, but learning new things and pushing myself has always been deeply gratifying. Outside of medicine, if you can even call that a hobby, I enjoy flying planes, I also love cooking, particularly pushing my creativity though making new dishes and attempting to recreate complex menu items. These hobbies offer me a creative outlet and keep me grounded during my busy training. Ask me any day of the week and im likely working towards something new to keep the mind fresh and the attention span entertained.
Future Plans: After completing my anesthesia residency at UNM, I plan to pursue further specialization through a fellowship in a subspecialty. As of now regional anesthesia, pediatrics, and transplant all interest me, but im hoping come CA1 year ill get to explore the field in even more depth and see what sticks. I also hope to balance my career with my personal interests perhaps blending it through aerospace medicine or optimizing nutrition in perioperative period through cooking. Only time will tell, but im excited to see where things go!

Why I Chose UNM: I value the atmosphere of teamwork and camaraderie found here at UNM. There are high expectations, but there is also a great deal of support from our peers and mentors. I know I will become an excellent physician here, while also being able to provide care for the people of the state I have come to think of as a second home.
About Me/Hobbies: When I'm not at work or spending time with my family I like riding bikes, hiking, camping, and reading. I also enjoy putting my hands to work on projects around the house, fixing broken things, gardening, and cooking.
Future Plans: I hope to practice general Anesthesiology back home in Oregon so I can stop forcing my parents to fly across the country to see their granddaughter.

Medical School: University of New Mexico School of Medicine
Why I Chose UNM: I felt a strong sense of camaraderie among everyone in the department. During my rotations, I noticed how well the anesthesia team worked with other services, which created a really supportive and collaborative environment. I knew I wanted a program where I’d be exposed to a diverse patient population and have the chance to learn in a hands-on way, and UNM clearly offered that. I also appreciated the opportunity to care for many Spanish-speaking patients. It means a lot to be able to connect with them in their own language and culture.
About Me/Hobbies: Pickleball, bike riding, horror movies, sunset watching
Future Plans: Undecided, possibly fellowship

Why I Chose UNM: I chose to pursue anesthesiology residency at UNM for a number of reasons. The training itself stood out as they emphasize the use of ultrasound throughout their curriculum, and the patient population is excellent for learning. The department is also highly supportive and collegial. Additionally, I have lived in the southwest my entire life, and I wanted to stay in this region for its culture, beautiful landscape, affordability, and outdoor recreational activities.
About Me/Hobbies: I have been playing the piano since I was about 5 years of age. Outside of that, I enjoy snowboarding, target-shooting, weightlifting, and traveling to foreign countries.
Future Plans: While my future plans are flexible, I am leaning towards private practice anesthesiology after my residency at UNM, and I hope to stay within the southwest long-term.

Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM for both the strong training program, and the surrounding region. Hometown: Los Gatos, CA/Bigfork, MT
Medical School: Pacific Northwest University
Why I Chose UNM: I have always had a proclivity for spending lots of time in the outdoors--mountain biking, skiing, hiking, rafting... you name it, I likely love it. On top of providing ample outdoor access and plenty of sunshine, I felt that I just got along really well with the residents during the pre-interview social hour. On top of that, being from the West Coast originally, I'm excited to be near friends and family over the next 4 years.
About Me/Hobbies: I'm generally happiest when I'm in the alpine. Whether skiing some backcountry powder, traversing a ridge while backpacking, or mountain biking through a spring bloom, you'll find me usually with a big smile on my face. A perfect day would be spent doing one of those activities with my fiancée and my dog Kiska, who is probably a better outdoor athlete than either of us. I also love to cook, have cultural experiences in other countries, and listen to a wide variety of music.
Future Plans: Professionally, I'm hoping to do a cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship, and delve deeper into wilderness medicine with a DiMM. Personally, I'm excited to marry my incredible fiancée and grow my family in the next few years (maybe another dog, hopefully kids, we'll see!). We'll likely end up somewhere in the mountain west, somewhere with big mountains, skiing, and sunshine!
