The University of New Mexico Hospitalist Training Track (HTT) is a longitudinal offering designed for residents interested in hospital medicine and healthcare leadership. Through a tailored curriculum, the track provides residents with unique exposures to hospital medicine, leadership training, and close mentorship from hospitalist faculty. Gain the skills, experience, and relationships to transform the future of medicine!
The HTT track is a two-year curriculum spanning second and third years of IM residency. The track curriculum is focused on providing both experiential and didactic training to advance residents' knowledge and skill sets as physician leaders.
Residents can apply for the track in winter of first or second year.
Whether you are considering a career as a hospitalist or you would like to deepen your skills as a leader, educator, or scholar this track is for you. UNM HTT graduates have gone into a wide range of positions after residency including academic and community medicine, medical subspecialties, and leadership positions at health systems across the country.
Gain additional experiences within high-impact rotations selected to provide you additional knowledge for a career as a future hospitalist.
Gain experience of what it is like to practice hospital medicine in the community at one of several locations: Sandoval Regional Medical Center, Lovelace Hospital, VA Hospital.
Learn the background of our healthcare system including finances, reimbursement, and policy through this unique seminar-style course led by leaders across the health system.
We all have unique clinical interests, choose one of the following to deepen your understanding of focus areas within hospital medicine: MICU Elective, Infectious Disease Consults, Palliative Consults, Psychiatry Consults.
Attend engaging sessions with guest speakers on career, clinical, and leadership topics to advance your personal development.

Meet up with fellow track residents in a quarterly journal club focused on clinical topics related to hospital medicine. Learn from your colleagues and faculty hosputalists on practice-changing literature to improve your skills as a physician.
