A major initiative of the Center for Metals in Biology and Medicine (CMBM) is to encourage multidisciplinary team science, principally fostered through pilot project awards. Through the support of the COBRE, the UNM COP, the UNM CCC and the CTSC, the CMBM anticipates awarding 2 pilot project awards of $20,000 each on an annual basis.
The pilot projects should be centered around the CMBM research theme of metal interactions with biomolecules. Projects that have demonstrable relevance to clinical and translational research are strongly encouraged to apply. All pilot projects must meet regulatory standards for NIH funding. Pilot proposals that are joint ventures with other scientists at UNM or a collaborating regional partner will be prioritized. The specific emphasis of each cycle will be included in the annual announcements.
