I chose The University of New Mexico because of the great culture and community, awesome operative experience, and the work-life balance. My favorite experiences have been gaining surgical skills and knowledge and the ability to operate independently as a PGY 3. My favorite part about training in Albuquerque is knowing that I am getting a great surgical education while being supported by both residents and attendings alike. I also can maintain my life outside of work, as well. My wife loves it here. She feels supported by other significant others and has created friendships with them and other residents. My hobbies and interests outside of medicine include hiking, camping, working out, cooking, and church.
