I chose UNM for residency because of the culture, the high volume of trauma cases, and the incredible faculty. The amazing food, outdoor opportunities, and great cost of living make it an ideal place for my family. My children attend excellent schools, participate in various sports, and enjoy the museums, the zoo, and skiing in the winter. We have a great mix of young, motivated faculty as well as very experienced senior surgeons. All of the most complex pathology cases in the state are referred to our institution, so there is no shortage of learning opportunities. Residency life here offers an excellent balance, with challenging rotations complemented by others that allow you to pursue research and other activities. Most importantly, this residency ensures that you not only learn how to be a proficient and capable surgeon but also enjoy the experience.
