After having rotated at the University of New Mexico, it became readily apparent to me that the Orthopaedic Program was exceptional. Not only do the faculty and residents strive to help you succeed as an orthopaedic surgeon, but also as a person—a quality that I consider to be invaluable in training. The fact that everyone comes to work and goes home with smiles on their faces says it all. Beyond the camaraderie, the department sees a breadth of pathology and case volume that allows for a wonderful training environment.
The state of New Mexico has much to offer as well. Being so close to world-class skiing and endless outdoor activities fills up my free time and leaves me planning my next adventure. The consistently perfect weather is a welcome change as well, and my cactuses are thriving here. Overall, the tight-knit group and the work-life balance here make the program the perfect place for me. Outside of medicine you can catch me playing soccer, watching Liverpool F.C., and enjoying the outdoors with a camera in hand.
