I love that orthopedics significantly improves the quality of life in patients with a variety of musculoskeletal injuries. After exploring many different specialties during medical school, I was always drawn back to ortho because I found that being able to physically manipulate someone’s anatomy to restore function and give patients back their quality of life was the most fulfilling aspect of medicine for me.
Compared to many other programs, UNM had the best comradery among residents and residents and faculty alike were genuinely happy to be at work and spend time together.
My sub-I rotation at UNM was memorable for having the most welcoming and fun residents I had worked with. The faculty are also extremely approachable and always willing to take time to teach. I gained a lot of hands-on experience and learning both in the OR and during overnight trauma call!
