Interests/Hobbies: Live music, hiking, skiing, piano, exploring new restaurants/breweries
As a rotating medical student, it was apparent that UNM was a program with not only superb training, but also the most down-to-earth and simultaneously clinically impressive people I had met. I immediately felt welcomed and everyone genuinely wanted me to learn and to be as hands as I could which spoke volumes.
The culture and camraderie amongst residents, and between residents and attendings is incredible which was a huge priority for me when figuring out where I thought I would best succeed. Additionally, as the only Level 1 trauma center and academic hospital in the state, I knew I would see a wide variety of cases from all around NM and help care for under-resourced and underserved populations.
Outside of the excellent surgical training, Albuquerque is also a hidden gem. My partner (who is also a surgical resident here) and I love how accessible the outdoors are to be able to enjoy our hobbies outside of residency. The weather is great, the scenery is beautiful, and there is a ton to do including hiking in the Sandias, exploring breweries, going to sports games, and driving up for a day trip in Santa Fe. Now being here for a few months, I truly cannot imagine being anywhere else and am incredibly grateful to be here.
