When I rotated as a student at UNM, I immediately felt like I belonged. From day one, I was welcomed as part of the team, and I saw firsthand the camaraderie and mutual respect between residents and attendings. The culture here is special. It is family-friendly, learner-focused, and filled with some of the most down-to-earth people. What struck me most was how happy the residents were.
We could not ask for better leaders for the program than Dr. Silva and Dr. Treme. They truly care about our success. On top of that, the training here is incredible. As the only Level 1 trauma center in the state, we get exposed to high-mechanism injuries and complex pathology. Outside of work, Albuquerque is truly a mecca for outdoor recreation. I would argue it has some of the best skiing, biking, and outdoor access in the country. In addition, the weather is amazing, and it is affordable to live here. I couldn’t be happier with ending up at UNM. I know I will get top-tier training and do it alongside an awesome group of people.
