The residents and faculty here are largely why I chose The University of New Mexico (UNM). Everyone here is very welcoming, and we all enjoy each other’s company. I wanted to be part of a program that felt like a family and where the faculty are close to their residents. I found that at UNM. Residents get together outside of work and are happy to be here. Aside from that, the training and volume is excellent. I have no doubt I will learn everything I need to build a successful career as an orthopaedic surgeon. There are a lot of good memories already, but playing in a softball league with the residency group has probably been my favorite. The weather in Albuquerque is pretty hard to beat. There is also no shortage of outdoor activities close to town. Albuquerque also has lots of competitive sports leagues in town to get involved with which really appealed to me. My hobbies outside of medicine include hockey, rugby, volleyball, softball, skiing, backpacking, fishing, hunting, and reading.
